“Gültekin Çetiner” - Short Biography
Prof. Dr. Gültekin Çetiner was born in 1963 in Eskişehir. After finishing his primary and secondary school, he graduated from Eskişehir Technical High School. Upon getting his BSc degree in 1985 at Gazi University he continued his MSc and PhD in Marmara University. At a stage during his PhD, he has been awarded a scholarship for continuation of his Master and PhD degrees. He went to England (UK) in 1990 where he obtained his MSc degree at Manchester University in 1991. As soon as he had finished his MSc he chose to continue PhD education at Cardiff University (South Wales/UK). He obtained his PhD degree in 1996 and returned back to Turkey. He started his academic career in Turkey at İstanbul Technical University as Assistant Professor at Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering Faculty. He got his Associate Professorship in 1999 by Council of Universities under Higher Education Council of Turkey. He worked at Istanbul Technical University until 2002 from which date he moved to Saudi Arabia to work at King Abdulaziz University (Jeddah) under Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Engineering Department. While he was working in there he also has taught at Sunderland University Campus of Jeddah. He shifted to Malaysia in 2007 to work at International Islamic University of Malaysia Engineering Faculty and Manufacturing Engineering Department (Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia). He obtained his professorhip in Malaysia at the beginning of 2009 in Industrial Engineering field. He then immediately moved to Bosnia-Herzegovina International University of Sarajevo as first the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. After only one week he was appointed as Rector of University. He also carried out the duties of Dean at the aforementioned Faculty. During his Rectorate, he initiated the cocurricular (extra curricular activities) to help the university perform the third function of universities, namely civic engagement and social responsibilites dimension. After applying extra curricular activities and other engagements, he was proposed as a member of Club of the Rectors of Europe by European Business Council on the achievements of “professionalism and social acitivities”. During his Rectorate he has initiated and signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aggreements with many Higher Education Instutions including Europe, Turkey and far east (Malaysia). He also participated actively in academic collaboration aggreement between Yalova University and International University of Sarajevo. He returned back to Turkey and started working at Yalova University under Faculty of Engineering and Process Systems Engineering. Prof. Dr. Gültekin Çetiner is now fulltime professor at our university. Prof. Dr. Gültekin Çetiner has memberships in professional bodies both in Turkey and abroad.
Research areas of Prof. Dr. Gültekin Çetiner are mainly Industrial and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering Management and Management Information Systems. He voluntarily works as webmaster owned by himself.
Prof. Çetiner is married with four daughters and one son. Prof. Çetiner is fluent in English in academic and spoken language. He has also little of Arabic and Bosnian.
