11th International Combustion Symposium
11th International Combustion Symposium will be held in International University of Sarajevo this year.

About the Conference
Combustion Symposiums are periodic activities of the Turkish Section of the Combustion Institute, planned for two-year periods and organized accordingly with a few exceptions. Since 1983 symposiums have been organized at six different universities. Previous organizations were realized by Uludag University (4), Gazi University (2), I.T.U. (1), Marmara University (1), Kırıkkale University (1) and Sakarya University (1).

Combustion is a chemical process to convert the chemical energy to heat and/or mechanical energy. Therefore from heaters and ovens in kitchens to internal combustion engines, from industrial boilers to furnaces of steel industry and electric-generating power plants, we practice some special form of the combustion. Such a widespread practice of the combustion, renders the conversion efficiency thus the fuel type, combustion system design and combustion efficiency inherently important. Especially today, as energy exhibits more likely a global strategic weapon, the answer to the question “how to use the energy sources more efficiently?” and thus fuel and combustion issues are of a greater interest than it has ever been.

This question is more crucial in Turkey, as Turkey has very limited fossil fuel sources.

Combustion symposium series of the Turkish Section of the Combustion Institute aims to bring the academicians and researchers together, in a platform of national scale, to share their studies and skills in this field. The organization is opened to international participation after the third symposium in 1993. After the 10th Symposium, it arose as a bright idea to organize the 11th one in Sarajevo with participation of International University of Sarajevo, which also is believed that enhances the social and scientific integrity between Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina and creates a great opportunity for the participants to see the natural wonders of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

It will be a great pleasure for us to see those who are willing for scientific participation or sponsorship in the organization.

The organization activities are executed by Burkon Tourism and Congress Organizer. It will suffice to convey your decisions or ideas about the scientific participation or sponsorship to Burkon Tourism and Congress Organizer.

Kind Regards

Prof. Dr. Ali SÜRMEN
Symposium Chair

Open Source Conference Management Systems

We were required to setup a website for our conference in October 2009. Therefore, we decided to make a feasibility study for various Open Source Conference Management Systems.

I found 3 Open Source Conference Management Systems which seem to be OK. I give the links related to those softwares below. We would be more than happy if anyone comments on these or other alternative softwares for managing the conference.

The following Conference Management Systems are open source and free to use for noncommercial purposes. They work on LAMP (Linux, MySQL and PHP) also with Windows hosting.

  1. OpenConf Conference Management Software (download here)
  2. Public Knowledge Project (Developed by Stanford University) (download here)
  3. Web Submission and Review Software (download here)
