IIUM Elearning Courses
The unofficial IIUM Elearning site (maintained personally) has been used actively since last year. The number of students at the site approaches to 500 which nearly makes 1 out 5 in Kulliyyah of Engineering at IIUM. Since the site has no connection to the online IIUM students‘ Database at IIUM, the student records have to be initiated by students and confirmed and later maintained by us. Despite the difficulties and the involvement needed to survive on internet I would suggest the elearning staff to all my colleagues who would like to set an elearning site for their courses. Just go to Open Source ELearning System, Moodle’s site from here and download the latest software. It is very easy to maintain. You need PHP and MySQL at your webserver. Unfortunately, I could not setup the elearning system inside my personal site at IIUM due to lack of space and some unsupported libraries and functions.
Microsoft Website Hacked
Microsoft Website Hacked
Microsoft’s Irish domain, Microsoft.ie, has been hacked and defaced by a group of Turkish hackers calling themselves the “terrorist crew”.
The page is used as a re director to http://www.microsoft.com/en/ie/default.aspx.
Microsoft has a history of having its websites defaced, in 2004 Microsoft.com was defaced and during 2007 Microsoft UK was defaced and hacked. Earlier this year it was revealed that thousands of sites that run Microsoft’s web server IIS had been hacked due to a SQL server injection.
According to a netcraft report, Microsoft.ie runs on Windows Server 2003 and is hosted by Novara Shared Hosting.
The following is the screenshot taken from the defaced site. The site has the message at the bottom ‘Bayraminiz Mubarek Olsun’ which means ‘Eid Mubarak’ in Turkish.

Malaysian Government gives Malaysia Government Scholarships for international students who like to continue their studies in Malaysia. The following is the information regarding the scholarships in Malaysia.
Malaysian scholarships for International Students
Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia invites applications from international students for the scholarships from Government of Malaysia for academic session 2009/2010. The scholarships are as follows:
* MTCP Scholarship in Malaysia
* MIS Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies in Malaysia
* MIS Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies in Malaysia
* Commonwealth Scholarship (Comprehensive information is provided in the brochure)
A panel established by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia will finalise the selection.
Deadline for applying the scholarship programme: 31th December 2008
